How should I care for my jewels?

Despite all the lengths I have gone to to ensure your jewellery is as strong as possible (see next drop down), no piece of jewellery is completely invincible.

And despite what many brands tell you, most of our beloved precious metals can tarnish over time (yes, they are lying to you to get the sale). This is normal because metals are natural elements that may react to certain environments.

However, the beautiful thing about precious metals is that you can easily prevent the tarnishing process by following these simple steps.

And in the event of tarnishing, your piece can be endlessly refreshed through professional cleaning if needed (no disposable jewellery here).

1. Avoid harsh chemicals (i.e., cleaning products, chlorine, perfumes).

If your jewellery accidentally comes into contact with harsh chemicals, rinse as soon as you can.

When wearing make-up and perfumes, put your jewellery on last and rinse your jewellery as soon as you can.

2. Rinse often & clean with mild detergent from time to time.

This can be as simple as wearing your necklace it in the shower after swimming in the ocean and cleaning it every now and again using a soft brush and small amount of mild detergent.

The main goal here is just to stop the build-up of oils and dirt over time which can accelerate tarnishing or reduce its shine.

3. Apply best practices for storing your jewels.

If your jewellery has ever tarnished too quickly, I would guess that incorrect storage was the culprit. The good news is that this is easy to overcome when you know what to do.

The first and easiest thing to do is to store your jewellery in the Sea Bloom Jewellery box that it comes in.

I have gone to significant lengths to source packaging that can safely store your jewellery long-term and bucks a mind blowing industry-wide trend.

My packaging only uses water-based glues and non-toxic materials so it is guaranteed NOT TO accelerate the tarnishing process.

As mad as this sounds, most jewellery brands choose cheap packaging that contains toxic glues and materials which are known to accelerate the tarnishing of the piece of jewellery your just bought... How wild is that! Putting a new product inside packaging which will damage that item overtime!? I just can't accept that.

If you have a pre-existing jewellery box that you want to store your jewellery in, make sure it is good quality and check how it has been manufactured because many of the cheaper jewellery boxes/travel cases out there are made from toxic materials that will accelerate the tarnishing of your jewellery.

If you like, you can take safe storage one step further by placing your jewellery (inside it's Sea Bloom Jewellery box) inside a food-safe plastic container and store it in a dark place such as a drawer. This helps to prevent exposure to oxygen, moisture and other contaminants in the air that can oxidise the metal.

Never leave your jewellery lying around without protection, collecting dust - this is a sure way to accelerate the tarnishing process.

Exactly how is Sea Bloom Jewellery better quality than other jewellery brands?

Through intentional design and production decisions, I do everything I possibly can on my end to ensure your jewellery has a long, shiny life:

1. By only working with solid, precious metals, your Sea Bloom Jewellery designs are made to a standard that is far more durable than most alternatives.

You won't find any cheap base-metals that turn your skin green, fragile mass-produced gold-filled parts or disposable gold-plating here.

2. By only choosing appropriately-strong components (i.e., chains), your jewellery is consciously designed to withstand life's predictable knocks and everyday situations.

For example, I will never use "barely-there" chains as these are incredibly fragile and often require multiple fixes over their lifetime. Many jewellery businesses choose these super thin chains as a way to cut costs (there is less metal in them so they are cheaper to produce) but I personally believe this is very short-sighted because those businesses know that their customers will foot the bill for that cost cutting later in life if they truly want to wear that piece of jewellery for many years to come.
